Thursday, February 22, 2007 - Firefighters from Greenwood and Woodstock conducted joint training on Round Pond and February 21. Woostock operates the area ice rescue team and the members of the Greenwood Fire Department were training to support the ice rescue team. Firefighter Jason Thayer donned a dry suit and entered open water on the pond. Members of the Woodstock ice team utilized their rescue sled and removed Jason from the water. Other members were on shore tending lines and providing manpower. Firefighters also practiced drilling through ice to obtain a water source for firefighting. Woodstock utilized their portable pump to draft water through a hole opened by using an ice auger. Although it was very cold and windy, all of the firefighters agreed that the training was extremely important and we learned valuable lessons.
